girlcrushcrushcrush

Poem-like texts are inspired by auto fictive themes such as friendships, girlhood, bisexuality and crushes. Having a crush is amazing and awful, it makes you anxious and nervous, it’s dreamy and fluid and it’s unsteady and paralyzing, it’s insomnia, it fills the diaries, it’s desperation, it’s obsession. Performance employs Hélène Cixous’ écriture feminine -theory, in which a woman/one socialized as a woman has to write, perform and imagine herself through ambiences, tones, sensibilities, hantologies, emphasis, repetitions, dynamics, rhythms, fluidity and ideas. Ponies gallop, Paris Hilton sings sanasaa and barbies say hi. The video is a chaotic crushing, a receipt saved from a date and a message received from a bestie.

iidana (Iida Hägglund) is a Helsinki based musician, composer, artist, sound designer and writer. Her soundscapes, mixing music and sound art, are synth popish, melancholic and dreamy drawing from sad girl aesthetics. In her works she is interested in feminism, girlhood and crushing.

Helka Saariniemi is a scenographer and performance maker originally from Savo, later settled in Helsinki, who is inspired by small things and taking a close look. Their video art combines video, hand-drawn animation, stop-motion and live video. Helka likes to wonder and slow down, and at the core of their artistic interests are at least clumsiness, sweetness and whimsicality, as well as small, vanishing everyday phenomena.

Tanja Valta

is building an ikebana installation. Ikebana is a form of the art of flower arrangement that has developed over the centuries in Japan and includes several different schools. The goal is to connect nature and human. Practicing Ikebana is the path of flowers, where at first you learn strict rules for making basic arrangements. In the end, on your own path, you move forward to freely search for your own expression and deepen your interpretation. Essential elements in the still life are opposing forces, asymmetry, empty space, mass and lines. Traditionally, ikebana is made of natural materials, but artificial materials can also be used nowadays in ikebana.

Forces

Constantly mutating rhythms and sharp digital textures shape the sound of Forces. Forces  is the electronic music project of multidisciplinary artist Joonas Siren. Different live-coding  and processing techniques are used to make dense atomized swirls, electronic abstract oceans of sound.

For the Marginalen festival Forces will make a unique performance, where SuperCollider  programming language is generating disjointed computer free jazz from obsolete  groovebox synthesizers/drum machines of the 90s.

Joonas Siren (b.1983, lives/works in Helsinki, Finland) has graduated as Master of Fine Arts from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in the year 2013 and also from the joint-study program Nordic Sound Art co-organized between five different Nordic Art Academies. Siren works with multidisciplinary methods, often using sound as an artistic material, but not in a musical sense. Siren’s works are mainly installations, usually containing computer programmed parts.
