Vauriomania
A mayhem from Savo
Jouko from Mäyrävesi obsessively plays a slot machine at the Haavemaa restaurant, even though he has no money.
Merconomy student Miku is sitting over a pint, dreaming of a better life in Los Ankeles.
Helvi, the village childminder, sings karaoke in the spring of her life, even though a snowstorm rages outside.
In a lust for money, a polar bear safari is promised to the American tourists who have come to exoticise Mäyrävesi.
In Haavemaa, we all wonder whether the alcolock on the Mazda 626 will open, whether Jouko and Miku will be able to get rid of their demons, and whether anyone will notice six-year-old Maisa quietly drawing pictures in the corner of the bar, with a message nobody wants to see.
The play is a return to childhood. It is a play about the difficulty of looking towards and the need to look away. Haavemaa collides grotesque humour and dark matter in Vauriomania’s signature way.
In addition to Paavo Kääriäinen and Jonnakaisa Risto, the play features grotesque puppets Miku, Jouko, Helvi and Maisa.

Vauriomania was founded by actor-screenwriter Jonnakaisa Risto (TeM 2018) and actor-film director Juuso Timonen (TeM 2024). Vauriomania was born out of the need to serve the insatiable creative urge of its artists in different formats. And who knows what Vauriomania will do in the future – at least exactly what it wants to do.
