Ramy Essam is back at Viirus!

Due to the audience request the performance Ramy – In the Frontline will return to Viirus in November, with 4 extra performances. He will perform in the new studio at Viirus theatre, in Jätkäsaari, Helsinki.

Ramy Essam participated actively in the revolution during the Arab spring in Egypt and has been called “The voice of the revolution” and the Bob Dylan of the Arab world. His songs continue to spread around the world. The newest addition was made together with PJ Harvey. The song “The Camp” tells the story of the dislocated Syrian children, living on massive refugee camps in Lebanon.

In the performance Ramy – In the Frontline, the audience gets to meet him and take part in his story of becoming an artist of the revolution. An exceptional life story that also reflects the late events in the Arab world.

Ramy – In the Frontline won the Antonia prize for artistic courage and diversity. The Antonia award stated that the performance could prove that theatre can change prejudices, mirror the world in large and make meetings possible, that remind us that we are all world citizens. The world’s biggest arts festival, Edinburgh Fringe welcomed Ramy Essam with open arms and the performance was praised by the critics. Ramy – In the Frontline was nominated for the Amnesty Freedom of Expression prize 2017.
